Herbata jest tylko jedna!! / There is only one tea!!

Szpitalny dzień. Widzę znajomego pijącego herbatę, a że nie mam czasu sama sobie jej zrobić, pytam go uprzejmie czy mógłby mi także zrobić. Zgadza się, po czym wiem, że muszę mu dać kilka wskazówek, jakie to herbaty pije Polka. 

- Poproszę bardzo słabą (oni kochają mocne herbaty). 

Przynosi mi na łyżce ilość sypanej herbaty i pyta czy tyle może być. Ja z przerażeniem mówię, że za dużo, że poproszę mniej. Teraz on reaguje z przerażeniem, że mniej to się już nie da, bo to już nie będzie herbata. Ostatecznie zgadza się. 

- Ile cukru? - pyta. 

- Piję bez cukru! 

Tu już widzę, jak prawie dostaje ataku serca! 

- Taka słaba herbata i jeszcze bez cukru??? 

- Wiem - odpowiadam z uśmiechem - jestem dziwna i nie jestem Egipcjanką:). 

- Z taką herbatą to na pewno nie jesteś - też się uśmiecha. 

Za jakiś czas przynosi mi tą "dziwną" herbatę. Kładę na stolik aż trochę wystygnie:

- Ale pij ją - przypomina mi kilka razy - bo będzie zimna. 

- Tak wiem - odpowiadam - ale piję też zimne herbaty. 

- Zimna herbata to nie herbata. Pij, bo wystygnie!!

Kiedy kończę dyżur, woła za mną: To co, jutro znów ta słaba herbata!!!

Islamic Cairo - to było moje pierwsze spotkanie z herbatą z miętą!

Kiedyś znajoma, także w szpitalu wylała moją zimną herbatę do zlewu. Kiedy pytam, gdzie moja herbata, mówi, że ją wylała bo była już przecież zimna!

Dla Egipcjan herbata jest tylko jedna - czarna. Inne rodzaje, które my zaliczamy do herbat, już nie są dla nich herbatą. Herbatą nie nazwą herbaty miętowej, rumiankowej, anyżkowej, hibiskusowej. Herbatę pije się gorącą i słodką (czasem bardzo słodką!). Rodzajem herbaty miętowej jest herbata z miętą, a to już duża różnica. Do zwykłej czarnej herbaty dodają świeże liście mięty, Taką herbatę zawsze serwują w restauracjach. 

A tak przy okazji, zapraszam na wyspę, na herbatę!!

Hospital day. I see a friend drinking tea, and since I don't have time to make it myself, I politely ask him if he could make it for me as well. He agrees, and then I know that I have to give him some tips on what kind of tea Polish women drink.

- I'd like a very weak tea (they love strong tea).

He brings me the amount of tea on a spoon and asks if that's how much it can be. I say with shock that it's too much and I'll ask for less. Now he reacts with shock that he can't take it any less, because it won't be tea anymore. Eventually he agrees.

- How much sugar? - he asks.

- I drink without sugar!

I can see him almost having a heart attack here!

- Such weak tea and no sugar???

- I know - I answer with a smile - I'm weird and I'm not Egyptian :).

- You're definitely not Egyptian with such tea like this - he smiles too.

After a while, he brings me this "strange" tea. I put it on the table until it cools down a bit:

- But drink it - he reminds me several times - because it will be cold.

- Yes, I know - I answer - but I also drink cold tea.

- Cold tea is not tea. Drink it or it will get cold!!

When I finish my shift, he calls after me: So, tomorrow it's that weak tea again!!!

Once, a friend of mine, also in the hospital, poured my cold tea down the sink. When I ask where my tea is, she says she spilled it because it was already cold!

For Egyptians, there is only one tea - black. Other types that we classify as teas are no longer tea to them. Tea will not be called mint tea, chamomile tea, anise tea or hibiscus tea. Tea is drunk hot and sweet (sometimes very sweet!). A type of mint tea is tea with mint, and that's a big difference. They add fresh mint leaves to regular black tea. This type of tea is always served in restaurants.
